Program Overview

The purpose of the Banking and Financial Services Certificate program is to develop competencies and applied skills necessary for success and advancement in the banking industry. Certificate graduates will understand the distinct characteristics of the banking industry including asset and liability management, regulation and compliance, credit analysis, risk management, customer service and sales, ethics, and innovation.

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

Admission into the banking and financial services certificate program is competitive. For consideration, applicants are required to submit a completed application form, a copy of their most recent DARS indicating an overall GPA of at least 2.75, and a resume which demonstrates characteristics necessary for successful completion of the program, for example, an above average GPA, strong work ethic, previous bank experience or coursework, leadership positions, membership in student organizations, etc. In addition, an interview with finance department faculty may be required. Contact the finance department for an application.

Change of Program Policy

Opportunities Upon Graduation

The banking industry continues to expand and innovate, and directly employs over 2 billion people in the United States as of early 2018. Succession planning has become critical for operations as banks endeavor to find motivated individuals with a mix of hard and soft skills and an understanding of the unique attributes of the industry. Further demand for educated talent comes indirectly from state and federal bank regulators and from the myriad of bank vendors and service providers. The program incorporates the economic foundation for the role of the banking industry as well as practical, hands-on applications and skills needed for success in a banking career.
