Program Overview

The Pre-Criminal Justice major program designates students who intend to declare the Criminal Justice major code (BS2210 ), but who have not yet satisfied the admission requirement by completing an applied associate’s degree in a technical area related to criminal justice, such as law enforcement, corrections technology, police administration, legal assisting, human services, or another similar discipline.

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

To earn the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Criminal Justice, a student must also earn an applied associate degree in law enforcement technology or a similar discipline. Students without a completed associate degree who wish to pursue the Bachelor’s degree will enter Ohio University in the Pre-Criminal Justice major code (ND2210) and work to simultaneously earn the applied associate degree in law enforcement technology and the Criminal Justice degree. The Applied Associate Degree must be completed no later than the term prior to expected graduation from the Criminal Justice program. The A.A.S. in Law Enforcement Technology is only offered on regional and online campuses.

Change of Program Policy

Students with an earned applied associate degree in an appropriate field will enter directly into the Criminal Justice major code (BS2210 ). Students without a completed associate degree who wish to pursue the B.S. degree in Criminal Justice will enter Ohio University in the Pre-Criminal Justice major code (ND2210) and will work to simultaneously earn the applied associate degree in law enforcement technology and the B.S. degree in Criminal Justice. The Applied Associate Degree must be completed no later than the term prior to expected graduation from the Criminal Justice program. The A.A.S. in Law Enforcement Technology is only offered on regional and online campuses.

External Transfer Admission

Students transferring to Ohio University with an earned applied associate degree in an appropriate field will enter directly into the Criminal Justice major code (BS2210 ). Students transferring to Ohio University without a completed applied associate degree who wish to pursue the Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice will enter as Pre-Criminal Justice major and will work to simultaneously earn an applied associate degree in law enforcement technology and the B.S. degree in Criminal Justice. The Applied Associate Degree must be completed no later than the term prior to expected graduation from the Criminal Justice program. The A.A.S. in Law Enforcement Technology is only offered on regional and online campuses.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Students will not graduate under the Pre-Criminal Justice major code. This pre-major code will designate students who intend to declare the the Criminal Justice major, but have not completed the requisite associate’s degree. The Applied Associate Degree must be completed no later than the term prior to expected graduation from the Criminal Justice program.
