The Master of Arts in Organizational Communication is an online degree program offered by the School of Communication Studies at Ohio University. The program is designed for working students who are seeking an advanced academic degree that focuses on the critical examination and understanding of the role of communication within the processes of organizing, decision-making, and problem solving. Faculty members involved in this program are recognized for their excellence as teachers, scholars, and program administrators.

This online degree combines a variety of distance technologies to provide students with a dynamic learning experience. Courses enable students to interact with colleagues in online class discussions and group projects, and video conferences are available with instructors and advisors to allow students to complete the degree from the comfort of their home at times that are convenient with work schedules. The program is designed in such a way that a student can, potentially, complete all course requirements for the Master’s degree in approximately 15 months (enrolling in two classes per semester) or two years (completing one class per semester).

To apply, students must submit an electronic application and upload a resume, goal statement, and contact information for three (3) references to the Ohio University Graduate College. Applicants must also arrange for transcripts and GRE test scores to be submitted directly to the Ohio University Graduate College. Applications are accepted for admission during the Fall, Spring or Summer terms. Applicants for the MA program should begin the application process by visiting http://www.comsma.ohio.edu/.

To obtain the Master of Arts in Organizational Communication, students must complete two required courses: COMS 7220, Communicative Practices in Organizations and COMS 6100, Measurement Methodology in Communication. Students will complete coursework requirements by taking four additional elective courses (16 graduate course hours) approved by the program administrator. All students must complete a 6 credit hour capstone experience by passing a comprehensive examination, completing a professional project, or writing a thesis. Students must complete a minimum of 30 hours, including capstone experience hours, to obtain the MA degree.
