Health Administration (M.H.A.)

Program Overview: The Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree program, offered entirely online, prepares professionals for leadership positions in U.S. health organizations and systems. The program is oriented to experienced, mid-career, health professionals who share a wealth of practical experience in their studies. Program courses focus on content essential to leadership in the health care industry and on development of skills to solve complex problems, identify and communicate with various stakeholders, maximize teamwork, and meet organizational goals. The Master of Health Administration program requires a minimum of 36 semester hours.

Admissions Policy:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution;
  2. An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale);
  3. At least two (2) years of substantive work experience in health care in the United States including current employment in the field;
  4. Undergraduate or graduate coursework in statistics and financial accounting (may be demonstrated by grade of B or better in college course or by completing relevant MBA Primers);
  5. Graduate-level English writing skills;
  6. Essay describing career goals and rationale for selection of OU MHA program;
  7. Resume detailing education and work experience;
  8. Three letters of recommendation (professional) on letterhead;
  9. Graduate college scores on TOEFL (if English is not first language);
  10. Standardized test scores (optional);
  11. Statement of good standing from medical college (for current medical students).

Change Policy: Not applicable

Transfer Policy: No credits may be transferred into the MHA program.

Opportunities: A Master of Health Administration degree is the industry standard for leaders who work in health care organizations or systems and for suppliers of materials and services to the health care enterprise. From department manager to CEO, the MHA is the degree of choice, documenting an understanding of the ‘business side’ of health care. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for medical and health services manager positions will be good, especially for applicants with work experience in health care and strong business and management skills.
