Adolescent to Young Adult Education

Formerly known as “Secondary Education,” Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) programs prepare candidates for an initial teaching license for grades 7 - 12, in junior or senior high schools. Programs are content-specific. Applicants may choose one of the following:

ME6859: AYA Physical Science

Program Overview: Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) graduate programs with licensure requires a minimum of 45 semester hours. The program prepares candidates for an initial content-specific teaching license for grades 7 - 12. The program recognizes and reflects both national and state requirements that lead to teacher licensure. It permits candidates to receive a master’s degree and complete requirements for an initial teaching license at the graduate level. It recognizes that post-baccalaureate students often have background experience relevant for teaching and therefore can profit from graduate study leading to licensure rather than enrolling in an undergraduate licensure program.

Admissions Policy: Candidates seeking admission to the initial master’s program with licensure in AYA Physical Science must have earned a bachelor’s degree, have a minimum Grade Point Average [GPA] of 2.90, and submit a Resume/Curriculum Vitae, three Letters of Recommendation as well as a Personal Statement of Professional Goals. In addition, international candidates must submit certified transcripts as well as proof of financial responsibility. Candidates¿ application materials may be reviewed prior to completion of the bachelor’s degree and may be admitted but will not be able to begin registration until an official transcript showing conferral of master’s degree is provided.

Opportunities: Licensed to teach Physical Science in grades 7-12.

ME6861: AYA Life Science

Program Overview: Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) graduate programs with licensure prepare candidates for an initial content-specific teaching license for grades 7 - 12. The program recognizes and reflects both national and state requirements that lead to teacher licensure. It permits candidates to receive a master’s degree and complete requirements for an initial teaching license at the graduate level. It recognizes that post-baccalaureate students often have background experience relevant for teaching and therefore can profit from graduate study leading to licensure rather than enrolling in an undergraduate licensure program.

Admissions Policy: Candidates seeking admission to the initial master’s program with licensure in AYA Life Science must have earned a bachelor’s degree, have a minimum Grade Point Average [GPA] of 2.90, and submit a Resume/Curriculum Vitae, three Letters of Recommendation as well as a Personal Statement of Professional Goals. In addition, international candidates must submit certified transcripts as well as proof of financial responsibility. ME6862: AYA Earth/Space Science

Program Overview: Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) graduate programs with licensure prepare candidates for an initial content-specific teaching license for grades 7 - 12. The program recognizes and reflects both national and state requirements that lead to teacher licensure. It permits candidates to receive a master’s degree and complete requirements for an initial teaching license at the graduate level. It recognizes that post-baccalaureate students often have background experience relevant for teaching and therefore can profit from graduate study leading to licensure rather than enrolling in an undergraduate licensure program.

It permits candidates to receive a master’s degree and complete requirements for an initial teaching license at the graduate level. It recognizes that post-baccalaureate students often have background experience relevant for teaching and therefore can profit from graduate study leading to licensure rather than enrolling in an undergraduate licensure program.

Program Overview: Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) graduate programs with licensure prepare candidates for an initial content-specific teaching license for grades 7 - 12. The program recognizes and reflects both national and state requirements that lead to teacher licensure. It permits candidates to receive a master’s degree and complete requirements for an initial teaching license at the graduate level. It recognizes that post-baccalaureate students often have background experience relevant for teaching and therefore can profit from graduate study leading to licensure rather than enrolling in an undergraduate licensure program.

Admissions Policy: Candidates seeking admission to the initial master’s program with licensure in AYA Integrated Language Arts must have earned a bachelor’s degree, have a minimum Grade Point Average [GPA] of 2.90, and submit a Resume/Curriculum Vitae, three Letters of Recommendation as well as a Personal Statement of Professional Goals. In addition, international candidates must submit certified transcripts as well as proof of financial responsibility. ME6867: AYA Integrated Mathematics

Program Overview: Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) graduate programs with licensure prepare candidates for an initial Admissions Policy: Candidates seeking admission to the initial master’s program with licensure in Integrated Mathematics must have earned a bachelor’s degree, have a minimum Grade Point Average [GPA] of 2.90, and submit a Resume/Curriculum Vitae, three Letters of Recommendation as well as a Personal Statement of Professional Goals. In addition, international candidates must submit certified transcripts as well as proof of financial responsibility. Candidates’ application materials may be reviewed prior to completion of the bachelor’s degree and may be admitted but will not be able to begin registration until an official transcript showing conferral of a bachelor’s degree is provided.
Opportunities: Licensed to teach mathematics in grades 7-12.

ME6868: AYA Integrated Social Studies

It permits candidates to receive a master’s degree and complete requirements for an initial teaching license at the graduate level.
