Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Technical Operations Management (BSTOM) is a two-year bachelors degree completion program in the department of Engineering Technology and Management. The two plus two mixed delivery (online and class room delivery) program leads to a Bachelors of Science in Technical Operations Management (BSTOM) from the Russ College of Engineering and Technology and a minor in Business from the College of Business at Ohio University.

Technical operations management is an area of management focused on designing and controlling the technical process and transformation methods of an organization while continuously improving the organizations operations to be the most efficient and effective in meeting customer requirements.

This program will accept only students who have completed an appropriate technical associate degree with a requisite GPA and /or work experience. This program is targeted to professionals and graduates who are seeking to complete their bachelors degree while continuing to work. This completion degree will complement many technical associate degrees and provide opportunities for graduates of this program to advance in their chosen fields.

Freshman/First-Year Admission

The student must have completed a select Technical Associate’s Degree.
The program follows Ohio University Transfer credit policy: https://www.ohio.edu/admissions/transfer-credits

After admission to the program the student must earn an average 2.5 GPA or better in the pre-major courses listed for this program. Students must have succeeded in all required courses taken in three or fewer attempts. For ETM 3015 and ETM 2030 success means a grade of at least a B-.

  ETM 3001 Intro To Tech. Op. Mgt.
  ETM 2030 Advanced Enterprise Computer Methods
  ETM 3015 Technical Operations Management
  Math 1300 or 1350 or higher Pre-Calculus or higher
  Eng 1510 or equivalent or Coms 1030 or equivalent

Change of Major/Minor/Certificate Policy

The student must have completed a select Technical Associates Degree.Students must have a GPA greater than 2.0 for all courses at Ohio University, for all courses in Russ College, and for all courses in the Technical Operations Management. Students must have succeeded in all required courses taken previously in allowed attempts. For ETM 3015 and ETM 2030 success means a grade of at least a B-.

External Transfer Admission

University admission requirements and the student must have completed a select Technical Associates Degree.

This program will provide opportunities for field advancement to a wide range of alumni who hold a diverse range of technical associate degrees. Here is a sampling of job titles which students who graduate from this program may pursue: Service Manager, Buyer, Maintenance Manager, Project Manager, Operations Supervisor, Operations Manager, Logistics Supervisor/ Manager, Quality Supervisor/ Manager, Lean Supervisor/Manager, Production Supervisor/Manager.

Major Hour Requirements


The Technical Operations Management program requires a minimum 120 hours, 28 hours of OU ETM credit after transfering into ETM, with at least 16 hours at or above the 3000 level.

Complete 18 hours of free electives in order to satisfy the 120 hour major requirement

Transfer credit from lab based Associate Degree


Student must have completed 23 credit hours of lab based Associate Degree courses.
