Health Technology Major (A.A.S.)

Ohio University-Chillicothe, Ohio University-Lancaster, and Ohio University-Southern offer a two-year program of study in Health Technology leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree. This program is primarily designed for students who have completed an allied health course of study and have been certified to practice in their fields. The program integrates the students’ technical skills with general academic skills necessary to advance in their chosen career areas. Up to 36 credit hours may be awarded for current certification in an allied health field. Other students may enter the program and pursue the associate’s degree by completing additional allied health technical courses. Upon completion of this program, students are well positioned to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Health Service Administration or Technical and Applied Studies.

Technical Associate Degree Requirements


The minimum requirement for the Associate in Applied Business (A.A.B.) or the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is the completion of 96 credits with a 2.0 accumulative GPA upon graduation. A maximum of 24 credits earned through the Experiential Learning Program may be applied to any technical associate degree. You must earn at least 30 quarter hours of resident credit at Ohio University; if you complete fewer than 60 quarter hours of Ohio University credit, you must earn at least 8 of your final 15 hours as resident credit. You also must meet Ohio University general education requirements for associate degrees. (See “Associate’s Degrees” the University College section)

To earn a technical associate degree, you must complete an Application for Update of Program(s), available from any college office or regional campus student services office.

Technical Requirements: 24 hours


Electives: 38 hours


Up to 36 hours may be satisfied by current allied health certification. Remaining hours should be completed through elective coursework.

Minimum Hours Required for Graduation: 96
