Transitional D.P.T.

The transitional DPT is open only to those graduates who earned a Master of Physical Therapy (M.P.T.) degree from Ohio University’s School of Physical Therapy. Those students will be able to take the additional coursework that has been added to the Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum in order to receive a DPT degree. The degree consists of 164 quarter hours beyond the baccalaureate degree. There are 28 credits that are required in the core courses. The remainder will be elective courses as outlined below. The total number of hours to be taken depends on the number of hours that the student has earned for the master’s degree. The combined hours for the MPT and the tDPT must equal at least 164 hours. Most of the courses are in a blended format; that is they are online, but several have a laboratory component that is provided on some weekend days during the course. Therefore, students do not need to interrupt their professional careers while pursuing the DPT degree.

Eligibility

You must hold a M.P.T. degree from Ohio University’s School of Physical Therapy. You must submit an online application to the Office of Graduate Studies to be accepted into the program. Once your application is complete, you will be contacted by the School Director. You may apply in any quarter to begin to take courses; however, this degree will be available for a limited period of time (2012 will be the ending date). Therefore, if you are interested, you are encouraged to begin the program as soon as possible. Generally, two courses will be offered per quarter.

Application Process

All applications to the Transitional D.P.T. program must  be done online at www.ohio.edu/graduate/apply.cfm.

If you have taken graduate courses at another institution after completing your M.P.T., please submit two copies of official transcripts from each U.S. postsecondary institution attended. (Official transcripts are those in envelopes sealed by the issuing institution). Ohio University transcripts will be obtained by the Office of Graduate Studies on your behalf.
