The minor in computer science provides a foundation in computing that may benefit students in other disciplines. Students take a year of software development in C++ (CS 240A, B, C), plus additional courses that provide a foundation for work in software development.
Opportunities upon graduation are varied. Computers and computer software are ubiquitous; they exist in cars, planes, trains, cell phones, televisions, cable boxes, ATMS, etc. Therefore, foundational knowledge of computing can lead to career opportunities in a variety of disciplines, e.g., biology, physics, engineering, accounting, business, etc. Students who have completed the minor in computer science have gone on to work in a variety of industries that use significant computing resources, e.g., the automotive, telecommunications, and financial industries.
