Program Overview

The undergraduate Sports Photography for Communication certificate program integrates Visual Communication with Sports Management and Marketing, equipping students with the creative and strategic skills needed for careers in the sports industry. Designed for individuals passionate about sports and media, the program provides a strong foundation in branding, digital content creation, fan engagement, and sponsorship marketing.

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

Admission to the Sports Photography for Communication certificate program requires an application and interview approval with the School of Visual Communication Photojournalism instructor. Program applicants must own or have constant access to a full-frame professional digital camera and at least one lens that has an aperture of f/2.8 or greater.

Change of Program Policy

Application and interview approval with the School of Visual Communication Photojournalism instructor. Must own or have constant access to a full-frame professional digital camera and at least one lens that has an aperture of f/2.8 or greater.

External Transfer Admission

Application and interview approval with the School of Visual Communication Photojournalism instructor. Must own or have constant access to a full-frame professional digital camera and at least one lens that has an aperture of f/2.8 or greater.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Successful completion of the Sports Photography for Communication certificate program equips graduates for professional roles in sports, team, event, and wire service photography; video storytelling for athletes, media communication for athletic organizations, and marketing and branding for sporting companies. 

Certificate Hours Requirement


The Sports Photography for Communication certificate program requires a minimum of 21 credit hours with an overall GPA of 2.5 or better. All courses must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
