PSY 4810 - Evolutionary Psychology Capstone course providing an evolutionary perspective on the major subfields of psychology. Topics include the theory and methods of evolutionary psychology, evolved structures of the mind, and evolutionary perspectives on cognition, language, consciousness, emotions, motivation, and social behavior.
Requisites: 14 Hours in PSY including 2110 and Sr Credit Hours: 3 OHIO BRICKS: Capstone: Capstone or Culminating Experience General Education Code (students who entered prior to Fall 2021-22): 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - To help students understand how distal factors such as evolutionary preparations help explain patterns of psychological performance in areas such as cognition, language, social functioning, and emotion.
- To help students understand how evolutionary, biological, and genetic factors influence the characteristics of psychological mechanisms and processes.
- To help students understand how to scientifically investigate the impact of evolutionary factors on psychological functioning.
- To improve student’s abilities to write, orally present, and debate about complex and often controversial topics in psychology.
