GEOL 4890 - Advanced Topics in Hydrogeology


In-depth study of an advanced or current topic in hydrogeology, exploring, but not limited to, such areas as karst hydrogeology, fracture flow hydrology, mine hydrology, unsaturated flow, and inverse modeling.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Contaminant hydrology and remediation (Watershed modeling, Variable density flow, Advection-dispersion-reaction, Reaction-diffusion, Active treatment systems, Passive treatment systems, Semi-passive treatment systems, Smart green treatment).
  • Isotope hydrology )Tracing flow in fractured-rock aquifers, Identifying source of water, Global carbon and oxygen cycle and climate change: Global Dole effects).
  • Karst hydrogeology (Flow in dual porosity system, Chemical evolution in karst, Karst hydrology and paleoclimate change.
  • Mine hydrogeology (Flow and chemistry of water, Kinetic tests: kinetic-cell tests. Static tests: humidity-cell tests, Remediation or acid mine drainage).
  • Numerical modeling including finite difference method (Prickett and Lonquist, MODFLOW ).
