EDTE 2200 - Phonics and the Structure of Language Provides information and training in the foundations of phonics instruction. Explores the historical, linguistic, and instructional framework related to phonics skill development.
Requisites: Admission to Teacher Candidacy Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Candidates will demonstrate an understanding of the nature of the English language and its orthography.
- Candidates will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate the ability to appropriately use concepts of phonics instruction.
- Candidates will demonstrate their ability to use phonics to teach students to use their knowledge of letter/sound correspondence to decode words.
- Candidates will model instruction at each of the fundamental stages of word recognition.
