CHEM 1100 - Introduction to Pharmacy A survey of the profession of pharmacy, including its history, scope of practice, educational requirements, organization, regulation, contemporary issues, and career opportunities.
Requisites: Chemistry major Credit Hours: 2 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 seminar Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - To allow students an opportunity to review current articles from pharmacy literature and prepare writings on a career pathway in pharmacy.
- To understand the educational pathways in pharmacy.
- To understand the medication use process, the importance of medication therapy management, and guidelines for safe medication-taking practices.
- To understand the profession of pharmacy including its history, development, regulation, ethical foundations, current scope of practice, important contemporary issues, and prospects for the future.
- To understand the role of the pharmacist in contemporary health care and career opportunities in the field.
