MATH 4221 - Modern Algebra I


The course looks at the fundamental objects of modern algebra. The objects studied include groups, permutation groups, subgroups, and quotient groups. The course studies conjugate classes and the class equation formula, and its application to p-groups. The Fundamental theorem on homomorphisms is studied and applied to different classes of groups.

Requisites: (MATH 3200 or 3210) and (MATH 3070 or concurrent)
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture
