COMS 4050 - Communication Strategy in Meetings and Event Planning Students examine the pivotal role of effective communication, leadership, and group dynamics in planning and hosting events and meetings.
Requisites: C or better in COMS 2050 and (Jr or Sr) and WARNING: No credit for this course if taken after RHT 3620 or REC 3620 Credit Hours: 3 OHIO BRICKS: Bridge: Learning and Doing Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to identify communicative strategies associated with the planning and implementation of effective meetings and events.
- Students will be able to connect academic knowledge from current and previous coursework with real-world experience by assisting with and analyzing an event for an organization.
- Students will be able to integrate relevant theories and concepts to the planning and hosting of events and meetings (e.g., facilitation, leadership, evaluation, training, marketing/promotion).
- Students will be able to transfer knowledge and experience to engage in critical thinking by identifying and addressing diverse challenges within the field of event planning.
- Students will be able to document essential communication strategies and practical components of planning and hosting successful meetings and conferences.
- Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the significance of cultural sensitivity by planning inclusive and culturally responsive events that cater to a wider range of participants.
- Students will be able to prepare and deliver a client presentation to summarize event results and offer recommendations to a prospective client.
- Students will be able to engage in self-reflection and assessment of events by applying techniques to gather and analyze attendee data.
