Certificate Overview
The Media Tools for Professional Communication Certificate is designed to help develop nonmedia professional gain basic experience in creating short-form media. Professionals in a variety of fields including small business owners, non-profit workers, and teachers will gain foundational experience in podcasting, animation, and video with a focus on short form storytelling. This certificate will enable professionals to employ digital media skills to communicate their personal and professional brand.
This certificate consists of three courses, MDIA 5705 Writing and Producing the NonFiction Podcast Series, COMM 5510 Short Form Video for Professional Communication, and COMM 5520 Motion Graphics Elements for Professional Communication, totaling 12 credit hours. Courses will run for 7 weeks online to accommodate professionals who cannot commit to a full semester. The courses do not need to be taken in sequence.

The parent program for this certificate is the Master of Communication (MC 5385). Neither enrollment in nor completion of the Master of Communication degree is required to complete this certificate. However, completing the certificate fulfills 12 of the required elective hours for the Master of Communication degree. Students admitted to this certificate may also seek admission to the Master of Communication degree and/or other certificates.
