Certificate Overview

The Gender, Sexualities and Health Certificate addresses a critical need for online, post-baccalaureate programming for professionals in the health care, social work, education fields, and others who need a better understanding of best practices addressing the needs of women, LGBTQ persons, and survivors of violence. The GSH Certificate advances the scholarly knowledge and cultural competency of adult learners by helping them to develop critical thinking skills for serving diverse populations.  Courses cover the intersections of gender, sexuality, medicine, and health care.

CEUs through Equitas Health:  Some courses include CEUs offered through Equitas Health Institute.

Certificate Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the certificate, learners will be able to develop best practices to address the unique needs of diverse populations of women, LGBTQ persons, survivors of violence, and members of underrepresented groups.

Admission Requirements

Applicants should complete a Graduate Non-Degree Application, available on the main Admissions page or the Graduate College website. Select the Gender, Sexualities & Health Certificate, program ND9989. NO GRE NEEDED.

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • GPA (or equivalent) of 3.0 or better in most recent degree program.
  • Official transcripts
  • English Proficiency. Students whose native language is not English also must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS academic). To be considered official, test scores must be reported directly from the testing agency to Ohio University. A TOEFL-iBT of 90 or IELTS composite of 6.5 across all bands is required. Admission Deadlines: The deadline for submitting applications for a summer session is April 15. The fall semester deadline is July 15. The spring semester deadline is Nov. 20.

International Students

This certificate program does not permit full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 cannot be issued based on admission to this program.

Completion Requirements

Minimum 12 semester hours (3 courses) required.
