Certificate Name and Number: Environmental Sustainability - CTENVG

Department/Unit: Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs

Certificate Mission: The Environmental Sustainability Graduate Certificate is an opportunity for graduate students who are not enrolled in the Master of Science in Environmental Studies (MSES) Program to get recognition for taking a cross-section of environmentally-themed courses from a variety of disciplines. The Graduate Certificate program helps graduate students develop skills and understanding of cross-cutting sustainability themes.

Delivery Mode: Athens Campus

Certificate Overview:  Sustainability is a concept that is applied and debated across many disciplines including environmental studies, business, education, economics, engineering, chemistry, geography, geology, sociology, anthropology, political science, and biological sciences. The Environmental Sustainability Graduate Certificate is an opportunity for graduate students who are not enrolled in the MSES Program to get the benefits and recognition for taking a cross-section of environmentally-themed courses from a variety of disciplines. The Graduate Certificate program helps graduate students develop skills and understanding of cross-cutting sustainability themes. Students — whether full-time graduate students or working professionals — also improve their understanding of concepts of sustainability as they relate to their specific degree program or career. The certificate program facilitates a study of environmental sustainability through the specific lens of the economy, society, the environment, and technology.

Opportunities upon Completion: The Graduate Certificate in Environmental Sustainability helps students develop cross-cutting and applied analysis tools for tackling complex challenges in a wide range of professions. Today’s public and private sector employers value team-based problem solving across disciplines and topics. The interdisciplinary approach to the Environmental Sustainability Certificate fosters these skills and knowledge base through practical inside and outside the classroom experiences.  With students drawn from a wide range of graduate programs, the peer-to-peer learning opportunities provide additional benefits to the diverse faculty and staff resources within the Voinovich School and across campus.
