Program Overview: The two-year MBA/MSA program prepares students for leadership positions by combining the business teaching of the Ohio University MBA program with sport-specific knowledge during the MSA program. This degree combination recognizes the growing complexity of the sports, facility and entertainment industries, and reinforces Ohio University’s commitment to preparing students for the leadership challenges of the future. From the time Ohio University MBA/MSA graduate students set foot on campus, they are offered a unique mentoring experience unmatched by any other graduate program in the country. Each student not only receives an executive alumni mentor and a faculty mentor, but a student mentor, as well.   Learning also takes place outside the classroom as students work on class projects, such as the program’s annual alumni symposium and various opportunities offered by the Ohio University Athletic Department. The program’s reputation has grown on both the national and international levels, attracting students from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, India, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mauritius, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Taiwan and Thailand. Our international diversity provides a valuable perspective as the sport industry becomes increasingly globalized.

Admissions Policy: Admission to the MSA program is highly selective. Only 20 students are admitted each year from more than 200 applicants. Like other highly specialized graduate programs, it requires an excellent academic background. Previous work experience is preferred.

Specific requirements are: Acceptance into both the Ohio University MBA and MSA programs.

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum overall grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • A submitted score from the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), or (for students applying from the Capital University Law and Graduate Center) the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT).
  • Three letters of recommendation: one from an individual who can attest to qualifications in the field (for example, an athletic director or arena manager). The other two may come from an undergraduate or graduate advisor, present employer, instructor in the field of study, and/or civic leader.
  • A two-page, double-spaced statement of professional goals that includes background, experience, and involvement in sports and related activities.
  • A current resume.

International Students have additional admission requirements. Please contact the Sports Administration office at (740) 593-4666.

The deadline for summer admission is FEBRUARY 1. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Selected candidates will be invited to campus at their own expense for an interview. Admission will be granted for summer entry after all interviews have been conducted. All dual degree classes start in June.
