Program Overview

The B.S. in geological sciences is the standard preparation for a professional career in the geological sciences or entry into a graduate program.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Numerous scientific career paths can be pursued with the scientific grounding provided by the B.S. degree. Professional careers in energy and mineral resources, environmental geology are supported by the B.S. and additional opportunities can be pursued by those who obtain a graduate degree.

Geological Sciences (B.S.) Major Requirements


The major requirement for the (B.S.) degree in Geological Sciences requires 47 hours.

Introductory Geology Course


This requirement may be satisifed by taking one of the three following options.

Geological Sciences Core Courses


Complete a total of 47 semester hours of GEOL coursework, including the following:

Complete any two 4000-level courses in geological sciences.
