Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

Students interested in the early childhood education major will enter Ohio University with a premajor code of ND8837 (premajor in early childhood). Students can apply to the major after completing specific requirements listed under Departmental-Level Requirements for Teacher Education . Enrollment in the program is limited to promote quality instruction, appropriate field placement and effective advising. Not all students who apply and meet the minimum criteria will be accepted. Contact the Office of Student Affairs for details on the early childhood restrictive admission criteria and process.

Change of Program Policy

You must have at least a 2.0 GPA to declare the non degree code. To be admitted to the major, you must apply and be accepted after successful completion of the admission criteria.

External Transfer Admission

If you should transfer from another institution into this major, you must either declare the premajor code, ND8834 (if you don’t meet the admission criteria) or apply for admission (if you do meet them). You must have at least a 2.75 GPA to declare the non degree code. To be admitted to the major, you must apply and be accepted after successful completion of the admission criteria. You will be required to submit a official copy of your transcripts from all other institutions from which you have transferred credits.
