Nurse Administrator

Program Overview: The MSN option in administration provides the foundation for management and/or leadership positions within a variety of health care agencies. All students complete a core of 23 credits and 13 credits specific to topics in administration.

Admissions Policy: This program is not open to freshman. Prospective students in the MSN Program need the following items to be considered for admission: 

  1. graduate of a nationally accredited prelicensure school of nursing,
  2. licensed as RN in the state of Ohio,
  3. hold a baccalaureate degree,
  4. 3.00 grade point average or better,
  5. resume,
  6. statement of how the MSN fits into professional goals,
  7. evidence of completion of courses in management, statistics, research, and accounting prior to beginning MSN work,
  8. three letters of recommendation, and
  9. completion of the Graduate Record Exam or the Miller’s Analogy exam if the undergraduate grade point average is lower than 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.

Change Policy: No selective or limited admission requirements.

Transfer Policy: Transfer students must meet the same requirements as those admitted without previous graduate coursework. Coursework can be transferred to the MSN only if:

  • the work was completed no more than five years previous to admission,
  • were graduate level courses acceptable for degree credit at the previous institution and completed with a grade of  B or better,
  • totals no more than eight (8) semester credits hours or 25% of the total required semester credit hours, whichever is greater, and
  • approved by the program faculty with a submission of an official transcript.

Opportunities: Graduates of the MSN, Administrator option are prepared to work in management positions at several levels within acute care or community-based health care agencies. Graduates are prepared to continue their education at the doctoral level.

Program Requirements


To earn the Master of Science in Nursing degree, you must satisfactorily complete required graduate coursework including all core courses and the specific courses for the major option you select.
