Program Overview: The expanding role of digital mapping and geospatial technologies in professional and everyday lives mandates a geo-enabled workforce, capable of interpreting, utilizing, and communicating geographic information. Traditionally, such training was available only to a select group of geography students, but usage of geospatial data and tools cuts across disciplinary and professional boundaries. The modern discipline of GIScience synthesizes theories and techniques from several cognate disciplines (e.g., geography, cartography, remote sensing, surveying, mathematics, computer science, information science, earth science, and social science) to provide a multidisciplinary foundation for designing and using geographic information systems. This graduate certificate program offers a balance of theory and technical training in Geographic Information Science. The certificate program is designed to accommodate both degree and non-degree seeking students.

Admissions Policy: No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Change Policy: No selective or limited admission requirements.

Transfer Policy: No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Opportunities: Job opportunities for GISc specialists abound in both government and private sectors. Depending on skill level, career tracks include, but are not limited to the following: data technician, database administrator, cartographer, geospatial analyst, software designer, GIS educator, and project manager.
