History—Preforeign Service Major (B.A.)

To prepare for the annual foreign service officer examinations, you are advised to acquire as broad an education as possible. Facility in written and spoken English; competency in a foreign language; and a good background in economics, history, political science, business, or public administration are essential. A preforeign service major is available through the departments of Economics, History, or Political Science. You can obtain detailed information about foreign service officer examinations, including sample questions from previous examinations, from these departments.

56 History hours and a 2.0 minimum GPA are required for the major.

Complete 36 additional hours above HIST 201, including at least three 300 and/or 400-level courses spanning three different periods (pre-modern history, early-modern history and modern history) and three different geographical areas (world history, European history, and North American history).  You should consult your academic advisor for assistance in choosing appropriate courses.
