Certificate Overview  

The Graduate Diabetes Certificate educates and prepares students to better understand the multifaceted and complex condition of diabetes. The program offers a unique opportunity for students to obtain interdisciplinary education and training opportunities as well as service learning, clinical and/or research opportunities guided by experts in diabetes. The certificate requires a minimum of 9 credit hours, and the typical and expected time to complete the certificate is two semesters.

Certificate Learning Outcomes 

Upon completion of the certificate, students will be able to:

  • examine knowledge of the complex management of diabetes and its prevention
  • formulate diabetes related information into diabetes related practice.
  • analyze the latest trends in diabetes research and clinical management.

Opportunities upon Completion  

Students who graduate with a Graduate Diabetes Certificate will potentially have broader career possibilities, including careers involved in diabetes prevention, management, and treatment.  The independent study portion of the Graduate Diabetes Certificate provides an opportunity for skill development, ranging from research design and development to clinical application.

Admission Requirements  

A letter grade of 3.0 (B) or better in all core and elective courses is required for certificate approval.

International Students 

An I-20 cannot be issued based on admission to this program alone.

Completion Requirements  

Students must complete three core courses (9 credit hours) as detailed below.
