Provides an introduction to empirical methods for the study of a writer’s products, processes, and social contexts.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to identify, explain, and evaluate essential research findings about writing practice and development.
  • Students will be able to employ ethical decision making in research design.
  • Students will be able to articulate the possibilities and limitations of common qualitative research methods in Rhetoric and Composition.
  • Students will be able to design and implement empirical research projects, including composing their relevant texts.
