POLS 6000 - Seminar in Political Science Scope and Theory Acquaints graduate students with the field of political science and is organized around issues in the philosophy of social science. Provides students with the tools to frame research questions within the field of political science and to go about answering them.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 seminar Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,PR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Be aware of the main questions addressed in the four sub-fields in political science: Political Theory, American Politics, Comparative Politics, and International Relations.
- Understand positivist and interpretivist approaches to the acquisition of knowledge in the social sciences.
- Understand quantitative and qualitative approaches for conducting research in political science.
- Understand the arguments for and the critiques of rational choice approaches in political science.
- Understand the logic of inference.
