ENG 5520 - Teaching Literature in Secondary Schools Content and methods of presentation for teaching literature in high school. Not applicable to Arts and Sciences 2000-level requirement.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 4.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,PR,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to cite research in connection with developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with standards for teaching literary and informational text in grades 7-12.
- Students will be able to articulate what means of assessment are best aligned with learning objectives to evaluate student learning in relation to literary and informational texts.
- Students will be able to evaluate models that utilize multiple intelligences to gauge reading competencies in grades 7-12.
- Students will be able to cite research that informs a range of strategies for teaching vocabulary in connection with reading.
- Students will be able to compose lesson plans that apply and demonstrate knowledge about a variety of literary and informational texts that represent a range of world literatures, historical traditions, cultures, and lived experiences.
