MATH 6750 - Set Theory


Introduction to axiomatic set theory; ordinals and cardinals; equivalents of axiom of choice. Introduction to combinatorial set theory.

Requisites:

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to carry out computations using the arithmetic of infinite cardinals and ordinals.
  • Students will be able to formulate inductive arguments using transfinite ordinals.
  • Students will be able to prove the equivalence of several forms of the Axiom of Choice.
  • Students will be able to prove theorems using the axioms of ZFC and its extensions.
  • Students will be able to use set-theoretic language to codify mathematical objects.
