MATH 6750 - Set Theory Introduction to axiomatic set theory; ordinals and cardinals; equivalents of axiom of choice. Introduction to combinatorial set theory.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to carry out computations using the arithmetic of infinite cardinals and ordinals.
- Students will be able to formulate inductive arguments using transfinite ordinals.
- Students will be able to prove the equivalence of several forms of the Axiom of Choice.
- Students will be able to prove theorems using the axioms of ZFC and its extensions.
- Students will be able to use set-theoretic language to codify mathematical objects.
