MATH 6411 - Partial Differential Equations I


Classical methods in partial differential equations. First-order PDEs, Laplace’s equation, the wave and heat equations, second-order elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic equations, maximum principles.

Requisites: (MATH 5302 or 5330) and 5400 and 5410

Learning Outcomes:
  • Ability to use the characteristics method for first-order equations.
  • Mastery of representation formulas for classical equations of mathematical physics.
  • Understanding the concept of weak solution for Hamilton-Jacobi and second-order elliptic equations.
