MATH 5700 - Introduction to Topology Topology of Euclidean spaces and general metric spaces. Introduction to general topological spaces.
Requisites: MATH 5301 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Distinguish between homeomorphic and non-homeomorphic subsets of Euclidean spaces.
- Formulate and prove generalizations of the Intermediate Value Theorem and the Extreme Value Theorem in the setting of metric spaces.
- Provide classification of compact 2-manifolds.
- Provide examples of convergent and divergent sequences in metric spaces.
- Recognize certain compact groups, such as groups of rotations of Euclidean spaces.
