EDCE 8700 - Counseling Leadership and Consultation This course focuses on theories and skills of leadership and consultation for counselors and counselor educators. The course provides an introduction to mental health consultation in social services, rehabilitation, community mental health, correctional facilities, health care, schools, private practice, and business settings. Theories of leadership and leader development principles are addressed in counseling professional service, consultation, and advocacy.
Requisites: Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to articulate the historical development of mental health consultation and differentiate consultation from counseling, supervision, and teaching.
- Students will be able apply theories of leadership and leader development principles to professional service, advocacy, and consultation in counseling.
- Students will be able to apply multicultural and social justice issues counseling competencies in counseling leadership, consultation, and advocacy.
- Students will be able to identify professional, legal, and ethical issues in leadership and consultation and apply relevant ethical decision-making models.
- Students will be able to define consultant and consultee characteristics and environmental factors that influence consultation outcomes.
- Students will be able to integrate counseling expertise with consultation and leadership skills to apply in educational, community, and professional settings.
- Students will be able to develop a proposal for consultation services, implement, and evaluate services.
