EDTE 6010 - Teaching Fellow Seminar I


This course serves as the first in a series of two seminars for P-12 Teaching Fellows. New teachers learn ways to build positive relationships with students and families. The importance of building positive relationships with coworkers is discussed, with an emphasis placed on communicating effectively. Practices that are new to early career teachers, such as grade level/team planning, co-teaching, and developing and implementing a classroom management plan, are also covered. Additionally, time is spent discussing how to balance full-time graduate work, including the completion of a research project, and teaching.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to describe and implement strategies for building positive relationships with P-12 students and their caregivers.
  • Students will be able to describe and implement strategies for building positive relationships with teachers, educational specialists, principal, and other school personnel.
  • Students will be able to articulate their personal classroom management plan.
  • Students will be able to engage effectively and professionally with other teachers and school personnel in planning grade-level instruction.
  • Students will be able to describe and implement the six coteaching models.
  • Students will be able to communicate with teachers and other school personnel in an effective, professional manner to advocate for the needs of their students.
