COMM 5410 - Crafting a Positive Media Message Students learn how to take complex business concepts or personal messages and synthesize the information into cogent media messages for public consumption. Message targeting, delivery and personal branding skills are developed. Media interviewing techniques are analyzed and strategies explained on how to avoid traps for interviewees.
Requisites: COMM 5400 Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to explain how journalists get information and how the student can become a source of information
- Students will be able to define a brand and deliver it in multiple ways
- Students will be able to demonstrate how to handle media corrections and media errors
- Students will be able to write and deliver an effective pitch
- Students will be able to write and promote an op-ed piece
- Students will be able to demonstrate how to incorporate social media in the messaging process
