REC 4850 - Concepts & Issues in Adventure Programming


This course provides students with an opportunity to critically examine a broad range of concepts and issues central to the field of adventure programming. The purpose is to engage students in central debates occurring in the field and to consider ways that the field can help address issues of broad societal concern. Students are also encouraged to consider ways that they can address these issues as practitioners and leaders in the field.

Requisites: REC 2150 and Sr.
Credit Hours: 3

Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to examine principles and practices of adventure programming used to address broader societal concerns.
  • Students will be able to critique selected assumptions, concepts and theories related to adventure programming.
  • Students will be able to engage in critical dialogue concerning concepts and issues central to the practice of adventure programming.
  • Students will be able to identify and discuss the social, cultural, and philosophical foundations of adventure programming.
  • Students will be able to utilize scholarly resources as a basis for engaging in critical inquiry and promoting best practices in the field of adventure programming.
  • Students will be able to complete an assignment using a format, language, or visual representation in ways that enhance meaning.
