REC 4450 - Research and Evaluation Methods in Parks, Recreation & Leisure Studies


This course introduces research and evaluation methods and techniques as they are applied within the field of parks, recreation and leisure studies. Students learn to critically analyze existing research literature, formulate research questions/hypotheses, develop research designs to address specific research questions/hypotheses, collect and analyze data, and report research findings in both oral and written formats.

Requisites: REC 3050 and 3100 and (PSY 1110 or 2110)
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to apply research and evaluation principles and techniques to engage in critical analysis of theory and practice within the field of parks, recreation and leisure studies.
  • Students will be able to critically analyze existing research literature within the field of parks, recreation and leisure studies.
  • Students will be able to develop research questions and hypotheses that address research problems and/or needs in the field of parks, recreation and leisure studies.
  • Students will be able to create research designs to address specific research questions and hypotheses.
  • Students will be able to collect and analyze data using both qualitative and quantitative approaches to research.
  • Students will be able to present research findings in both oral and written formats.
