REC 3200 - Challenge Course Programming


Introduces students to the facilitation and technical skills needed to safely conduct challenge course programs. Specific topics include challenge course facility design, administration of challenge courses, challenge course equipment and supplies, procedures and techniques used in operating low and high course elements, safety and risk management techniques, rescue techniques, group processing and facilitation techniques, and industry standards.

Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

  • Apply basic principles related to group processing and facilitation in challenge course programming.
  • Apply safety and risk management techniques to minimize accident potential in challenge course programming.
  • Compare and contrast various challenge course facility designs that exist in the industry and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing basic rescue techniques.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in practicing procedures and techniques used in operating low and high course elements.
  • Identify and discuss the significance of industry standards that govern the practice of challenge course programming.
  • Identify and utilize professional resources as a basis for continued professional development in challenge course programming.
  • Identify the various components involved in the administration of a challenge course facility.
