EDRE 7600 - Multivariate Statistical Methods in Education


Course topics include multivariate methods in educational statistics, statistical modeling, extensions of the general linear model, and the use of computer statistical packages.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to use descriptive, graphical, and both applied univariate and multivariate inferential statistical methods for appropriate purposes within the research process.
  • Students will be able to integrate knowledge of univariate statistical methods, hypothesis testing, and research design as needed within applied advanced/multivariate statistical analyses.
  • Students will be able to describe the purposes and limitations of, perform, and interpret applied advanced/multivariate statistical methods (including General Linear Model and other advanced modeling procedures).
  • Students will be able to use at least one computer package (e.g., SPSS, R, AMOS) to perform and interpret applied advanced/multivariate statistical analyses, including screening data, assumptions, post hoc analyses.
  • Students will be able to evaluate quantitative research methods and advanced statistical analyses reported in published research articles and manuscripts.
  • Students will be able to interpret and communicate effectively about applied advanced/multivariate research designs and statistical analyses as part of the research process (e.g., problem, method, results, and conclusions).
