EDHE 6885 - History and Philosophy of American Higher Education


This course is an exploration of the concepts and concerns that have shaped American higher education. Content includes key events, individuals, and institutions that have shaped the promise of access and excellence in post-secondary education.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to identify and describe key philosophical foundations that have shaped American higher education.
  • Students will be able to identify and explain key trends in the diversifying of democratization of American higher education.
  • Students will be able to discuss and analyze historical trends leading to contemporary issues in American higher education.
