EDCS 5000 - Advanced Studies in the Histories of Education


Advanced study of various historical movements and time periods related to education. Advanced and focused study about specific historians and/or historians of education. Pays special attention to historically marginalized peoples within specific historical educational movements and trends. Allows the opportunity to engage in advanced study of historical topics in education that are often overlooked in survey courses.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will develop a more in-depth understanding of the long historical “conversation” of education, both in the western and non-western contexts.
  • Students will examine the link between specific historical time periods under study and current educational movements and conditions today.
  • Students will have the opportunity for in-depth and focused graduate study in specific historical time periods and movements.
  • Students will have the opportunity for in-depth and focused graduate study of specific historians who address educational movements and issues, as well as specific historians of education.
