CE 5380 - Prestressed Concrete Design


Theory of prestressing, design and analysis of prestressed concrete beams, slabs, box girders, and bridge girders by elastic and ultimate strength methods.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to determine deflection performance of prestressed concrete beams.
  • Students will be introduced to flexural analysis & design procedure of prestressed concrete.
  • Students will be introduced to composite section design procedure.
  • Students will be introduced to prestressed concrete bridge design procedure.
  • Students will be introduced to shear design procedure of prestressed concrete.
  • Students will be introduced to torsion design procedure for prestressed concrete beams.
  • Students will know engineering properties of concrete and prestressing steel.
  • Students will learn about how prestress may be lost.
