AT 6310 - Neuromechanics of Sports Injury Rehabilitation


This course will help students to gain an understanding of the physiology of the sensorimotor system, the pathophysiology of articular injury related to the proprioceptive mechanism, as well as improved management strategies for enhancing functional joint stability.

Requisites: Master of Science in Athletic Training Major
Credit Hours: 3

  • Cite the research and best practices associated with concussion.
  • Describe assessment tools to measure proprioception and neuromuscular activity.
  • Describe the neuromuscular mechanisms for normal joint stability.
  • Describe the significance of neuroanatomic and neurophysiologic mechanisms associated with neural adaptation of orthopedic injury.
  • Explain motor control regulation for complex skills.
  • Identify and describe pertinent neuroanatomy.
  • Implement advanced rehabilitation protocols based on evidence of literature and practice.
  • Synthesize current research in the area of proprioception and neuromuscular control and apply this understanding to functional orthopedic rehabilitation.
  • Synthesize the current literature on musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
