HIST 3532 - History of the Crusades Surveys the major European crusades to the Middle East, with comparison to the Albigrensian, Iberian, and Baltic crusades. Focuses on the interaction and perspective of the different Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities, and the impact of crusading ideology on western history.
Requisites: Soph or Jr or Sr Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Understand the development and application of Just War Theory.
- Present ideas clearly in writing and discussion.
- Understand the causes of the First and subsequent crusades.
- Understand the consequences of crusading for medieval Europe and subsequent historiography.
