HIST 3231 - Latin American History: From Independence to the Present Examines Latin American history in the 19th- and 20th- centuries, focusing on causes and consequences of Independence; the political, social and economic challenges of nation-state formation; competing political/ideological responses to structural crisis in the 20th- century (social revolution, authoritarianism, democratic change); and ongoing search for viable formulas of economic development.

Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be critical readers of both primary and secondary sources, and will use and properly cite both types of evidence in their written work.
- Student’s work will reflect an understanding of the intellectual, political, economic, social, and cultural history of Latin America since independence.
