BIOE 7050 - Capstone Experience in Bioethics and Society


This course is a research-based course that allows students to focus on the implications that the certificate program bring to their particular discipline or area of interest, drawing upon the various required and elective courses to address a particular issue in their selected area of interest.

Requisites:
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 1.0 lecture, 1.0 research, 1.0 practicum
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Apply knowledge from previous research/scholarly experience to critically analyze current issues and challenges in the field of bioethics. Examples may include but are not limited to: end-of-life care, life-sustaining treatment, reproductive rights, etc.
  • Identify and synthesize appropriate information to support analysis and conclusions of defined questions or problems related to bioethics and the physician-patient relationship.
  • Define and apply issues of values, deontology, theoretical and applied ethics, and medical ethics to conceptualize patient cases.
  • Systematically formulate bioethical perspectives on an identified healthcare dilemma and propose solutions.
  • Translate the results of the learning objectives into actionable, patient centered outcomes.
