EDHE 5780 - Introduction to Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education


Provides students with an understanding of the principles and practices that are associated with assessment in higher education. Focuses on the reasons for the development of the current learning outcomes assessment movement in higher education and on approaches for improving academic programs and support services.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Articulate the history and current status of learning outcomes assessment in higher education.
  • Describe steps in the assessment process.
  • Discuss appropriate steps or methodologies in higher education outcomes assessment, accreditation, and program evaluation.
  • Discuss the role of faculty in assessment processes.
  • Explain how assessment fits with institutional planning.
  • Explain the importance and role of Institutional Research offices.
  • Identify and describe principles of good practice for outcomes assessment and program evaluation in higher education.
