EE 6233 - Nonlinear System Analysis I


Introduction to nonlinear dynamical systems analysis: nonlinear dynamical system models, second-order nonlinear behaviors by phase plane analysis, including multiple equilibria, qualitative behaviors near equilbrium points, limit cycles and bifurcation; demonstration of chaotic behaviors by simulation; existence, uniqueness and sensitivity of solutions; Lyapunov stability and its assessment; input-output stability.

Learning Outcomes:
  • A grasp of basic analytical techniques for nonlinear dynamical system, e.g. phase plane techniques, linearization, describing functions, Lyapunov first and second methods.
  • An ability to develop and verify computer simulations and numerical solutions for nonlinear dynamic systems and processes.
  • An understanding of typical nonlinear dynamical system behaviors, e.g. existence and uniqueness of solutions, stability of equilibrium states and limit cycles, simple bifurcation and chaos, frequency responses, input-output stability.
