EDHE 6890 - Legal Issues in American Higher Education


An introduction to legal rights, requirements, and issues that affect the operations of institutions and individuals in American higher education.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will differentiate treatment, containment, and preventive approaches to situations involving legal liability.
  • Students will explore the hierarchy of federal, state, and local law related to American higher education.
  • Students will gain a basic understanding of legal terminology and concepts that can affect administrative and faculty practice.
  • Students will investigate issues of equity that affect academic, student life, and personnel matters.
  • Students will understand some key legal rights and responsibilities of faculty, students, and staff.
