EDCP 6300 - The Helping Relationship in Higher Education


Introduction to modes, methods, and issues involved in effective helping relationships with college students.

Requisites:
Credit Hours: 4

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will assess their abilities to help empower students’ self determination, decision-making, and sense of community.
  • Students will become aware of ethical and legal issues and standards that affect helping agents in higher education.
  • Students will develop helping skills, such as active listening, clarification, confrontation, conflict mediation, and community building.
  • Students will differentiate purposes, roles, and skills in helping relationships for college students.
  • Students will explore cognitive, effective, and behavioral dimensions of helping relationships with diverse students.
  • Students will identify and analyze concepts and research about these relationships.
